2008 OFC Nations Cup

The football Ozeanienmeisterschaft 2008 ( engl.: OFC Nations Cup ) was the eighth playout of the oceanic continental championship in football and was held on 17 October 2007 to 19 November 2008. At the tournament took with Fiji, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Vanuatu, only four teams participate. Australia was the first time after joining the Asian Football Federation in 2006 no longer for participants. New Zealand was set for the main competition. The other three teams qualified via the football tournament at the South Pacific Games in 2007. Competition was Everybody played not as a tournament in a country, but in the league format against everyone with home and away matches and served as a qualification of the Oceania zone for the Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa.

New Zealand was the fourth time the Oceania and qualified for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2009 in South Africa.

Qualification

The qualification was part of the football tournament held at the South Pacific Games from August 25 to September 8, 2007 in Samoa, which was the same as the first round of Oceania qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2010. Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu qualified as a medalist for the main competition of the Ozeanienmeisterschaft.

Main competition

Competition in the league format was the same as the second round of Oceania qualifying for the World Cup 2010.

1The scheduled for October 13, 2007 game between New Zealand and Fiji was canceled by FIFA as New Zealand refused the Fijian goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau to issue an entry visa. This game should be played on 19 November 2008 on neutral ground, Apia (Samoa ), but then was held in Lautoka (Fiji).

Oceania champions New Zealand played in the intercontinental play-offs World Cup qualifier against Bahrain 0-0 and 1-0 Asia representative and qualified thus for the Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
