2009 W-League (North America)

The W- League 2009 was the 15th season of the W- League, the second highest division in the U.S. and Canadian women's soccer. The season began on May 8 with a 2-1 defeat of the Hampton Roads Piranhas against the Charlotte Lady Eagles. The season ended on July 19. The playoffs started on July 22 and ended on August 8.

Pali Blues defended his title against the Washington Freedom Reserves and turned the final 2-1.

Six teams changed their names: the Carolina RailHawks Women (now Cary Lady Clarets ), the Chicago Gaels ( Chicago Red Eleven ), Fort Collins Force (Colorado Force), Jersey Sky Blue (Hudson Valley Quickstrike Lady Blues ), Rochester Rhinos Women ( Rochester Ravens ) and Washington Freedom ( Washington Freedom Reserves ). In addition, two teams met for the League: Buffalo Flash and Quebec City Arsenal. Six teams left the league: Bradenton Athletics, Carolina Dynamo, Fredericksburg Lady Gunners, Michigan Hawks, Vermont Lady Voltage and West Virginia illusion.
