Organization

Preparation

In the FEI General Assembly in 2008 in Buenos Aires, it was decided to award the European Championships in eventing in 2011 in Germany. Luhmühlen already hosted the European Championship in 1975, 1979, 1987 and 1999, had applied to host.

Implementation, venue, media

The European Championships were opened in the late afternoon of 24 August 2011 ( Wednesday). Theme of the opening ceremony was " riding the century". That day was also the first horse inspection for the participating horses.

The event ended on Sunday, August 28, 2011, after 15:00 clock with the awards ceremony and medals to end.

The system of Luhmühlen versatility on which the European Championships will be conducted in 2011, was extensively remodeled in the years 2010 and 2011 and re-opened to international four -star eventing in June 2011.

In the German television led to the last two days of the tournament through transfers. The results showed that ZDF on Saturday a half-hour summary of the tournament day, the ARD broadcast the final show jumping on Sunday to the extent of about one hour. General

Unchanged since the first European Championships ( with the exception of the European Championships in 1997 ) is available from the Eventing European Championships two votes - for team and individual competition - awarded after the completion of each course.

There were eleven teams and other individual riders at the competition, the participants comprised a 70 rider. The participating nations could each send four team riders and two individual riders with one horse at the European Championships. Germany as the host nation was allowed to bring eight individual riders in addition to the team riders at the start.

Schedule

The prelude to the athletic program was the dressage test, which was conducted on Thursday and Friday. Before the regular participants competed in the dressage Anna Siemer ( born Junkmann ) with Charlott as a test rider out of vote ( " Guinea Pig" ).

In the dressage part test to Germany took the lead of the team standings. With consistently strong individual performances, the team won a dressage score of 98.70 penalty points, and thus probably the best dressage team results in the history of eventing equestrian sport at all.

An important contribution to this result came from Ingrid Klimke with FRH Butts Abraxxas. With a score of 80.00 % (equivalent to 30.00 minus points) Klimke reached him best eventing dressage of her career and sat down at the top of the individual standings after dressage.

The field day of the European Championships proved rainy, which has an effect on the soil conditions. Nevertheless, built by Mark Phillips course was as challenging, but solvable problem: two riders passed on in the field, eleven riders left in the ground from. The Belgian team is with only two riders not a complete team more.

Two years earlier ( at the European Championships in Fontainebleau ) six riders had given up on the ground, 14 riders dropped out at the field day, half of the participating eight teams insisted upon the premises for less than three riders.

Final result

After the completion of the site inspection, the second horse inspection was conducted on the morning of Sunday. Here, the horses of a Spanish and a Polish team Reites were excluded as "not fit to compete " from the competition. So now there was also a Polish team of less than three riders.

The jumping competition on the final day led again significant changes in routings, the German dominance but held on. Benefited from this Michael Jung, who through the whole test could keep his individual result and thus won individual gold. He is thus third in a row with Virginia Leng and Zara Phillips - at the same time acting as Individual World and European champions. The German team kept due to the extensive lead after the grounds despite the bombings the lead and won team gold.

The second and third place in the individual competition also went to two German riders: Sandra Auffarth won in their first championship after the Young Riders - time Einzelsiber.
