2014–15 Volvo Ocean Race

The next Volvo Ocean Race will take place 2014/2015. Start of sailing race is on 4 October 2014 in Alicante ( Spain), destination port is Gothenburg in Sweden.

Rule Changes

While each team developed a customized boat in the framework of the regulations at the previous editions of the race, coming at this regatta identical yachts in the Volvo Ocean 65 - Class. For the first time in the history of the Volvo Ocean Race and its predecessors, this race is thus held in a device class. After a lot of material damage and losses were recorded by over breeding designs at the last two races, this decision was made in favor of security, but also the lower financial requirements for participation in the regatta. To further reduce costs, these boats are to be used at least two regattas.

Scoring

The Volvo Ocean Race 2014-2015 is discharged as a stage race. The winner is the team that scored the most points at the end of the regatta. For each separation unit, the team points are awarded according to the following scheme: Points = ( Number of Participating Teams - rank 1) * multiplier. For in-port races, the multiplier is 1, 5 for the offshore stages in the stage or in the Inport Race excreted boats will not get any points.
