2017 IIHF World Championship

The 81 Ice Hockey World Championship for Men will be held in Germany and France from 5 to 21 May 2017. Venues include the Lanxess Arena in Cologne and the Palais Omnisport in Paris.

For host the IIHF were two applications before, which provided for each tournaments in two countries: Denmark and Latvia on the one with the host cities of Copenhagen and Riga, as well as Germany and France, Cologne and Paris. All four countries had originally submitted individual applications. Germany and France gave in January 2012 announced its intention to the World Cup 2017 co-host, Denmark and Latvia submitted the applications together in November 2012. The International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF decided in September 2012 to also allow joint applications from two countries after the World Cup in 2012 already had been held together in Finland and Sweden. The final decision about the host took place on 17 May 2013, the Annual Congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation in Stockholm. For Germany / France voted 63 delegates, Denmark / Latvia 45

For Denmark it would be the first Ice Hockey World Championship. The Danes had already applied for the World Cup in 2016, but moved shortly before the vote back their application. Germany was most recently in 2010 hosted the World Cup, Latvia last 2006. The last World Cup in France in 1968 at the Olympic Winter Games in Grenoble held.

Already the first stand-alone World Cup 1930 was held in France and Germany after the originally held in Chamonix tournament was canceled after a warm spell and continued in Berlin. The host, in this case, the main host Germany qualified automatically for the tournament. Is Germany already qualified on the placement at the World Championships in 2016, the host of France falls to the launch site.

The logo of the World Cup is reminiscent of the late goalkeeper Robert Mueller.

The 18th Ice Hockey World Championship of Women takes place in 2017 in the United States.

The 41 Ice Hockey World Championship U20 juniors will take place in Canada. The venue is not fixed yet.

The 19th Ice Hockey World Championship U18 juniors will be held in Slovakia. The venue is not fixed yet.
