( 283 ) Emma is an asteroid of the outer main asteroid belt, which was discovered on February 8, 1889 by Auguste Charlois at Nice Observatory.

Emma has a diameter of 148 kilometers. It has a dark surface with an albedo of 0.026. In approximately 6 hours and 53 minutes to rotate around its own axis.

On 14 July 2003, a team of astronomers of the Mauna Kea Observatory discovered using the Keck II telescope a moon Emma. This satellite, designated S/2003 ( 283 ) 1 was two days later confirmed by staff of the ESO Very Large Telescope. It has a diameter of 12 km and rotates Emma in 3.36 days at a distance of 596 km.
