(2849) Shklovskij

( 2849) Shklovskij is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on April 1, 1976 by Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanovich Chernykh at the Crimean branch of the Observatory in Nautschnyj ( observatory code 095) near the city of Simferopol.

The asteroid is named after the Soviet astronomer and astrophysicist Iosif Shklovsky Samuilowitsch (1916-1985) named, who was a pioneer in the study of SETI and was in the 1960 co-organized the first conferences at the Byurakan Observatory on potentially existing extraterrestrial civilizations.
