( 2880 ) Nihondaira is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on February 8, 1983 by Japanese astronomers Tsutomu Seki at Geisei Observatory (IAU code 372) in the prefecture Kōchi.

The asteroid was named after the Nihondaira Observatory (IAU code 385) in Shizuoka Prefecture, where the amateur astronomer Takeshi Urata made ​​the most of his discoveries.
