( 30837 ) Steinheil is an asteroid of the main belt, by the German astronomer frankness Börngen at the Thuringian State Observatory Tautenburg (IAU code 033) was discovered in Thuringia on 15 January 1991.

The asteroid was named after the German physicist, astronomer, optician and entrepreneur Carl August von Steinheil (1801-1870), who at the personal request of the Bavarian King Maximilian II founded 1855, later Optical Astronomical Institute CA Steinheil & Sons, in which the miterfundene by him method for silvering of glass surfaces with a thin layer of silver to produce high quality telescopes was used.
