3rd Foot Guards (German Empire)

The 3rd Guards Regiment of Foot was a regiment of the Guards of the Prussian army.

Structure

Together with the 1st Guards Regiment of Foot, the Garde- Jäger Battalion and the teaching infantry battalion formed the regiment, the 1st Guards Infantry Brigade. She was under the 1st Guards Division of the Guard Corps.

Peacetime location was from 1878 to 1919 the barracks Wrangelstraße in Berlin. Prior to the first regiment in Gdansk (1860-1866) and Hanover (1866-1878) was stationed.

History

The regiment was founded on 5 May 1860. It took part in the German -Danish War of 1864, the German War of 1866, the Franco-German War of 1870 /71 and the First World War in part. After the return to the homeland, the regiment was demobilized from December 13, 1918 in Berlin, and then dissolved.

The tradition continued with the 2nd Company of the 9th ( Prussian ) Infantry Regiment in the Reichswehr.
