( 43844 ) Rowling is an asteroid of the main central belt, which was discovered by the U.S. American astronomer Mark Hammergren on 25 July 1993 at the Manastash Ridge Observatory (IAU code 664) in the vicinity of Ellensburg, Washington. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid had already given on 22 and 23 August in 1979 under the provisional designation 1979 QJ3 at the La Silla Observatory of the European Southern Observatory in Chile.

( 43844 ) Rowling was named on 13 April 2006 at the suggestion of Mark Hammergren after the British writer JK Rowling, who is primarily known for their Harry Potter novels.
