(4951) Iwamoto

( 4951 ) Iwamoto is an asteroid of the main belt, which was discovered on January 21, 1990 by the Japanese astronomer Yoshikane Mizuno and Furuta Toshimasa at the observatory in Kani (IAU code 403) in Gifu Prefecture.

In May 2007, the observing astronomers discovered that ( 4951 ) Iwamoto has a moon. This satellite, designated S/2007 ( 4951 ) 1 has a diameter of about 3.5 km away and circulates Iwamoto in 118 hours.

The asteroid was named after the Japanese astronomer Masayuki Iwamoto.
