4th Special Forces Helicopter Regiment

The Détachement ALAT of Opérations Spéciales ( DAOS ) (German " Army Special Forces Division" ), the ALAT stands for Aviation légère de l' armée de Terre and refers to the French Army. The DAOS is a special unit of the French army. It is the air component of the Brigade des forces PR Service terre (German " Army Special Forces Brigade " ) of the French armed forces, it is also assumed. The DAOS is an association in battalion strength, which is designed to ensure the delivery and collection of the Special Task Force under the most difficult tactical and topographical conditions for often located far behind enemy lines use. Organization and equipment

The department actually a squadron ( in the French armed forces, a battalion ) is divided into six operational escadrilles ( here are escadrilles companies and non- moves):

  • Squadron of Opérations Spéciales ( EOS ) 1: equipped with the transport helicopters from the Cougar
  • EOS 2: equipped with multi-purpose helicopters of the type Gazelle
  • EOS 3 equipped with multi-purpose helicopters of the type Caracal
  • EOS 4: equipped with transport helicopters of the type Puma
  • EOS 5: equipped with transport helicopters of the type Puma
  • EOS 6: equipped with attack helicopters of the type Tiger

The 4th and 5th EOS are usually assigned to the Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale ( GIGN ), the Unit for counter-terrorism and hostage rescue of the Gendarmerie Nationale, which, although police unit, an organization of the armed forces and the Ministry of Defence is under.
