Title song

The title song One more time, one more chance was written and interpreted by Masayoshi Yamazaki.

This title was also the theme song for Moon and Cabbage, a Japanese film of 1996. Shinkai chose such a famous title, because he so wanted to summon up images of everyday events. It seemed therefore advisable to use a song that everyone knows ( " everyone knows about"), and thus should provide additional realism his film.

Criticism

" No story with mecha, not a story about parallel universes. Makoto Shinkai [ ... ] remains bound to re- tell of his favorite subjects in his third anime reality: from unrequited love, longing and brief moments of happiness. In three short films, he observed his protagonist Takaki and how this has changed over the years, from teenagers to adults. [ ... ] As in all Shinkai movies stands not a common tension in the center. Rather, the stories associative images that captivate their wealth of detail and its unusual perspectives, thus enabling a new experience of space, while the substantive omissions that encourage leaps in time and open ends for thought. Follow Makoto Shinkai images and sounds fascinate the utmost. "

Awards

5 Centimeters Per Second was awarded 20 January 2008 at the Future Film Festival in Bologna as the best feature film length with the Lancia Platinum Grand Prize.
