5 - methylcytidine ( m5C ) is a rare and nucleoside is present in the tRNA, rRNA and mRNA. It consists of the β -D - ribofuranose (sugar ) and the 5-methylcytosine. It is a derivative of cytidine, which is methylated in the 5- position.
