(5413) Smyslov

( 5413 ) Smyslov is an asteroid of the outer main belt, which was discovered by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Chernykh on 13 March 1977 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj (IAU code 095). An unconfirmed sighting of the asteroid, there had been at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj already under the provisional designation 1971 BF4 on 28 January 1971.

The asteroid is part of the Themis family, a group of asteroids, which was named after ( 24) Themis. The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 5413 ) Smyslov are almost identical to those of the two smaller, if we start from the absolute brightness of 14.3 and 15.6 compared with 12.1, asteroid ( 18926 ) 1978 VW2 and ( 157 707 ) 2006 AM51.

( 5413 ) Smyslov was named on 20 June 1997 after the Russian- Soviet chess grandmaster Vassily Smyslov ( 1921-2010 ), who was from 1957 to 1958, the seventh world chess champion. Smyslov was also a trained opera singer.
