( 624) Hektor is the largest and brightest asteroid from the group of Trojans of Jupiter.

A Trojan is called in astronomy asteroids that run at the Lagrange points L4 or L5 the orbit of the planets around the sun umlaufenen. The asteroid 1907 discovered Jupiter runs ahead on the Lagrangian point L4.

Hector is an irregularly shaped celestial bodies of 370 × 195 km stretch.

It was named after the heroic figure of Hector in Greek mythology.
