( 6480 ) Scarlatti is an asteroid of the inner main belt, which by the Belgian astronomer Eric Walter Elst at August 12, 1988 at the French Observatoire de Haute -Provence in the Alpes -de -Haute -Provence (IAU code 511) was discovered.

The asteroid belongs to Nysa group, one named after (44 ) Nysa group of asteroids (also called Hertha family, according to (135 ) Hertha). The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 6480 ) Scarlatti are almost identical to those of the smaller, if we start from the absolute brightness of 15.1 compared with 14.2, asteroid ( 10437 ) van der Kruit.

( 6480 ) Scarlatti was named on 5 March 1996 by the Italian composer and harpsichordist Domenico Scarlatti, whose main significance lies in his sonatas for harpsichord that count the most original of the genre in the 18th century. In 1979, an impact crater on the northern hemisphere of the planet Mercury by Domenico Scarlatti and his father Alessandro was named: Mercury crater Scarlatti.
