( 6838 ) Okuda is one of the main asteroid belt, which on 30 October 1995 by the Japanese astronomer Shimizu and Takeshi Urata at Yoshisada Nachi- Katsuura Observatory (IAU code 905) was discovered in Wakayama Prefecture.

The asteroid was named after Toyozo Okuda (1908-1983), the fourth director of the International Latitude Observatory at Mizusawa and former director of the Geographical Survey Institute of Japan. During his service in Mizusawa 1963-1976 he established a modern system of geophysical measurements to determine the gravity and earth tides, which served the exploration of Earth's rotation.
