( 7260 ) Metelli is an asteroid of the outer main belt, the Lucia Stroncone Observatory (IAU code 589 ) was discovered at Terni in Umbria on 18 March 1994 at the Italian Santa. Unconfirmed sightings of the asteroid, there had been previously, among others, in September 1981 (1981 FP5) at the Palomar Observatory in California.

The eccentricity of the asteroid is rounded 0.0086 low so that its orbit around the sun is quite close to an ideal circular path, similar to the eccentricity of the planet Neptune ( 0.0086 ). It is still significantly less than the eccentricity of the Earth ( 0.0167 ).

( 7260 ) Metelli is a member of the Koronis family, a group of asteroids that is named after (158 ) Koronis. The timeless ( nichtoskulierenden ) orbital elements of ( 7260 ) Metelli are almost identical with those of six smaller if one of the absolute brightness of 14.8, 15.2, 15.1, 17.0, 16.8 and 16.5 compared with 13.1 runs out, asteroids: ( 38245 ) Marco Pontes, ( 78372 ) 2002 PJ125, ( 83595 ) 2001 SX256, ( 185 272 ) in 2006 UL159, ( 281589 ) 2008 UH145 and ( 355 156 ) 2006 VD66.

( 7260 ) Metelli was named on 8 December 1998 by the painter Orneore Metelli ( 1872-1938 ). A native of Terni Metelli is attributed to the naive painting.
