SA -17 Grizzly is a Russian medium-range air defense missile with solid propulsion and radar- based target acquisition. The GRAU index 9K40 is BUK -M2 (Russian: Бук - beech). The system is designed to defend against fighter aircraft, helicopters, and cruise missiles. The introduced for experimental purposes in the 1990s, the system is intended to replace the system SA-11.

Weapon

The 9M317 missile - carrying a 50 kg HE warhead with an effective radius of destruction of over 17 m. An SA -17 in the battery is capable of controlling up to six targets simultaneously.
