A Thousand Splendid Suns

A Thousand Splendid Suns is a novel by the author Khaled Hosseini about the fate of two women in torn Afghanistan in recent decades. One of the women is the illegitimate Mariam. She is married at the age of 15 years after the suicide of her mother by her father with Rashid. Rashid is 30 years older than her and worked as a shoemaker in Kabul. 20 years later Laila enters her life. Laila has lost in a barrage her parents and marries Rashid as his second wife. In the new budget, the two protagonists develop a close friendship with the violent Rashid.

Established in 2007, translated into German book with the original name is A Thousand Splendid Suns by The Kite Runner (2003), the second book of the author.
