Abadla

Province

Abadla (Arabic: العبادلة ) is a municipality in the province of Bechar in the west of Algeria. It is located in the northern Sahara on the right bank of the river Oued Guir, 90 km southwest of Bechar and 150 km north- west of Beni Abbes. The site, a former French military base, was named after the tribe who are a part of the great nomadic tribe of Doui - Menia.

The location on the banks of the Oued Guir allows the cultivation of cereals. The construction of the Djorf - Torba dam and new channels, north of the village, the irrigation has been made easier. Abadla was also the terminus of the Mediterranean - Niger railway.
