Abandonia

Abandonia is an internet platform for old computer games, mainly DOS games that are no longer maintained by its authors - so-called abandonware. The site supports several languages ​​, including German.

Abandonia is currently one of the most visited abandonware sites on the Internet and has already received several awards.

For each game, which was added to Abandonia, there are also screenshots and a test report. The reports are written by the members here who belong to different nationalities, and then checked. So to be equally maintained all languages ​​, as well as a high quality stay secured. In addition to the games themselves, the site also offers a variety of emulators for download, with which the games can also be played on newer operating systems.

There are still some extras like a music collection, in which the music of old games can be played, and a " Altwarenliste " in which the copyright status of old games can be checked.

History

Was launched Abandonia 1999 of Croats Kosta Krauth. At that time Abandonia still belonged to the warez scene that illegally offered, inter alia, games to download, although these were sold by the rights holder. After 2003 also a forum has been set up, the site was always known and popular.

Another step forward was the page after adding different languages ​​and regularly updated with new articles. With the success of the membership increased, now the site is regularly visited by several thousand members and supervised several dozen staff. Today only games are still offered, which are not sold commercially, and copyright is not a member of the Entertainment Software Association.

Organization and technology

The site is based on a community of fans of old DOS games, organized by an editorial. Users who want to add a game to the offer of the page must check whether it is actually is abandonware or whether license claims still exist on the part of the manufacturer before. Abandonia Reloaded

Abandonia Reloaded ( AR ) is a sister project to the development and publication of freeware games dedicated to. The project was started in summer 2005 by Kosta Krauth, Monica Schoenthaler, Maikel Kersbergen, and Tom Henrik Aaberg.
