Abas (Sophist)

Abas was an ancient Greek sophist and rhetorician. About him is known only by the Byzantine encyclopedia Suda that he ( ύπομνήατα Ίστορικά ) a historical commentary and a work on rhetoric ( Τέχνη ρητορική ) wrote. He is also quoted by the scholia to Hermogenes ( 7,203 ). Thus, one must recognize its survival after the Hermogenes. Eduard Schwartz considers it unlikely that this Abas with the eponymous author of Troika is identical.
