Abax (genus)

Large wide- beetle ( Abax parallelepipedus )

Abax is a beetle genus from the family of ground beetles ( Carabidae ). My site covers Europe.

Features

The beetles are 11 and 25 millimeters long. They are sturdily built, mostly deep black Carabidae. Most males are brighter than the females. The base of the pronotum is broad. Shoulders and wing-covers - Basalrand are approximately the same width. In the third elytra interval no pores dots. The tarsi glabrous above. The third member of the sensor is maximum as long as the first, but usually shorter. The antennae are hairy only from the fourth member. The cerci of the larvae are 5 - to 4 -membered, their mandibles are curved and strong outstanding.
