Life

According to the report today of a mutilated Syrian manuscript ( 12th century ) on Christian martyrs of Abda was a bishop of Hormizd Ardashir in Husistan, and as a priest named Hašo 420 AD admitted the burning of a fire altar, were not only this, but also Abda and his brother, Dad, the priest Isaac, secretary Ephram, the subdeacon Papa and the laity Daduk and Durtan to the Persian king Yazdegerd command I executed. The church historian Theodoret and Socrates Scholastikus argue that Abda, Bishop of Susa, after a dispute with the Zoroastern 420 AD burned one of their Ahura Mazda consecrated fire temples. By order of the otherwise friendly to the Christians opposed Yazdegerd I. Abdas should restore the temple at his own expense. Since the bishop refused, the king had him executed and destroy all the Christian churches in Persia, and there was a persecution of the followers of this religion which, although set back soon, but under Yazdegerds son Bahram V (reigned 420-438 AD. ) was resumed and brutally carried out; the total duration of the persecution to have amounted to 30 years. Among the victims under the reign of Bahram expects Theodoret Christians Hormisdas, Suenes and Benjamin. These are worshiped together with Abda in the liturgical calendar of the Orthodox Church on 5 September and 17 October as a saint. One can choose from an Armenian version of this history martyr conclude that it is due to a non-existing source which brought the person of Abda with Hormisdas and his fellow sufferers in conjunction. Probably Abdas is mentioned in the Byzantine calendar of saints as Bishop of propellant. Socrates Scholasticus reported Abdas yet that he should have helped the bishop Maruthas in the exorcism of a demon from Yazdegerd. In the Catholic Church is the feast day of Abda September 5th or May 16th
