Abdiel

Abdi hot two or three biblical persons who appear in Tanach, the Hebrew Bible:

  • A Levite from the house of Merari. He was the father of Kizhi, probably a contemporary of Saul ( 1 Chronicles 6:29).
  • Another Levite, also from the house of Merari, Kish the father of ( 2 Chron 29:12 ).

Because resemble both names and their origins, some Bible dictionaries, see them as the same person. But the father of Kish was probably a contemporary of kings Jotham and Ahaz, BC to about 746 ruled from 777 BC. The father of Kizhi, however, lived about 250 years after King David in the days of Hezekiah.

  • A son of Elam (Ezra 10.26 ). He belonged to the Israelites, who had taken foreign wives, but sent them away on Ezra's exhortation to go. This happened after Ezra I. ( longimanus ) was ( BC 468 ) returned to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes.

Abdi is including in Somalia and the Turkish a common first name.
