Abdoldjavad Falaturi

Abdoldjavad Falaturi (Persian عبدالجواد فلاطوري ʿ Abd -al- Ǧawād Falaturi; born January 19, 1926 in Isfahan, † December 30, 1996 in Berlin) was a German - Iranian scholar of Islam. In Germany he was particularly involved in the exploration of Shiite Islam and the Christian- Islamic dialogue.

Life

Falaturi laid in 1943 at a German -Persian school from his high school. Subsequently, he studied Islamic sciences ( Arabic literature, Islamic law, Islamic history, theology, logic, philosophy) at madrasas in Isfahan (two years), Tehran (two years), Mashhad (six years) and again Tehran ( another three years). After completing his studies with a Ijtihad degree in 1950 and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 1954, he moved in 1954 to Germany, where he studied in Mainz, Cologne and Bonn Philosophy, Comparative Religion ( with Gustav Mensching ) and psychology as well as Greek and Latin. 1962 and 1964 doctorate Falaturi Gottfried Martin with a thesis on the interpretation of Kantian ethics in the light of respect.

While he worked on his habilitation, Falaturi taught at the Universities of Hamburg ( 1961-64 ) and Cologne ( 1964-1973 ), Persian and Islamic Studies. The Habilitation took place in 1973 with transformation of Greek philosophy by the Islamic way of thinking. From 1974 to 1991 he taught at the University of Cologne Islamic philosophy, theology and jurisprudence.

Falaturi was 1965-1975 instrumental in the establishment of the Shia Library at the Oriental Institute of the University of Cologne, whose foundation still fell in the time of the former seminar leader Erwin Graef and their line was continued after Falaturi by Werner Diem.

After the Islamic revolution in Iran Falaturi was one of the few Persian religious scholars who continue to remain in contact with the authorities of Al-Azhar University. So he became a member of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs of Al-Azhar University.

Falaturi in 1986 was a founding member of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany, and in 1978 co-founded the Cologne " Islamic Scientific Academy for the Study of the interaction of Western history and culture" ( ISWA, 1997 resolved), which funded the Shia Library 1986-1992.

Falaturi founded the Cologne textbook analysis project that examined all approved textbooks from 1981 in Germany to their image of Islam through. 1988, this project was internationalized as Islam in Textbooks.

Falaturi suffered a heart attack in October 1996, the consequences of which he died three months later. He is buried in his hometown in the cemetery "Rose Garden of the Martyrs ". His literary estate is located in the Imam Ali Mosque of the Islamic Centre Hamburg.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death Falaturi took place on 27 and 28 April 2007 at the University of Cologne, an international meeting of scientists and representatives of Muslim organizations ( Udo Tworuschka, Reinhard Kirste, Mohamed Baqer Talgharizade, Nadeem Elyas, Ali Kızılkaya, Klaus Lefringhausen, Sabiha El -Zayat, Mohamed Heidari, Tariq Ramadan, Hortense Reintjes - Anwari, Shams Anwari, Kamran Amir Arjomand, Houaida Taraji, Ali Rahbar, Bekir Alboğa, Marco Scholler, Navid Kermani ) instead.
