Abdominal wall

The abdominal wall or abdominal wall includes all the anatomical structures that serve the anterior and lateral boundary of the abdominal cavity.

These anatomical structures from the outside to the inside:

The abdominal wall is used, among other things, the protection of the abdominal organs, the storage of fat in the subcutis over their muscular portion of the mobility of the trunk, as auxiliary respiratory muscles during exhalation and by means of so-called abdominal support of defecation, with bladder dysfunction and bladder emptying.

The abdominal wall itself is under the pressure of lying in the abdominal cavity organs and intraperitoneal adipose tissue, in the presence of ascites fluid therein also.

When there is inflammation in the abdominal cavity with involvement of the peritoneum may cause a reflex guarding of the abdominal muscles.
