Abel Seyler

Abel Seyler ( born August 23, 1730 in Liestal, † April 25, 1800 in Rellingen ) was a Hamburg merchant and later an actor and theater director of Swiss origin. He was the founder of the Seylerschen drama society. Among other things, acted Seyler during the Seven Years' War, together with Johann Tille man with unterwertigen rear coins they could be produced nearby coin Rethwisch in Hamburg. The turmoil caused by the debasement make after the war for the destruction of a trading house of Seyler and Tille man.

With its theater company Seyler later played anywhere in German-speaking and was involved in the establishment of the Hamburg Entreprise and in particular the National Theatre in Mannheim, where he was director from 1779 to 1781. His work contributed significantly to making the works of Shakespeare known in Germany.

Seyler married actress Sophie Friederike Hensel 1772 (1789 died ). His brother in law from his first marriage was Johann Gerhard Reinhard Andreae. His son was the Hamburg merchant and banker Ludwig Erdwin Seyler, associate of Berenberg Bank. His daughter, Sophie Marie Catherine Seyler (1762-1833) was married from 1781 to Johann Anton Leisewitz.
