Majungasaurus

The Abelisauroidea are a Untertaxon the Cerato dinosaur theropod dinosaurs within the ( Theropoda ) from the Lower Jurassic ( Pliensbachian ) existed until the end of the Mesozoic.

The Abelisauroidea include Noasauridae and Abelisauridae, and possibly also some basal ( original ) genera. The oldest known Abelisauroide is probably Berberosaurus from the Lower Jurassic of Morocco.

The Abelisaurier were particularly in the Cretaceous of the southern hemisphere ( Gondwana ) widespread and ask there obviously important faunal elements of terrestrial ecosystems dar. From the northern hemisphere, are until now only fragmentary remains of the Elaphrosaurus resembling animal from the Upper Jurassic of the North American Morrison Formation and the incomplete skeleton of Genusaurus known from the Lower Cretaceous of France.

The Abelisaurier were successful until the end of the Cretaceous group, but decreased thereafter, together with many other Mesozoic life forms, the mass extinction at the Cretaceous - Tertiary boundary victim.
