Abies × sibiriconephrolepis

Abies × sibirico - nephrolepis is a hybrid of the natural crossing of the East Siberian fir ( Abies nephrolepis ) with the Siberian fir ( Abies sibirica ) has emerged. Deposits are only known from the north of China's Heilongjiang province.

Description

Abies × sibirico - nephrolepis grows as a evergreen tree that can reach the stature heights of up to 25 meters. In its appearance, the hybrids is similar to the two parental species, which often occurs a greater resemblance to the East Siberian fir. The needles are about 1.5 inches long and are therefore shorter than those of the East Siberian fir.

The cones have bracts that are less than three-fourths as long as the seed scales. The sterile seeds resemble those of the Siberian fir and have a long seed wings.

Distribution and location

So far, it has been reported only from occurrences in the north of Heilongjiang in China. However, it is likely that Abies × sibirico - nephrolepis is also found at other sites to which overlaps the range of the parental species. They are found in mountain valleys, where it forms mixed stands with the two parental species and other conifer species.

System

Abies × sibirico - nephrolepis is a naturally occurring hybrid between the East Siberian fir ( Abies nephrolepis ) and the Siberian fir ( Abies sibirica ). Some authors it is considered only as part of the natural variation of the East Siberian fir. However, since they have characteristics of both species, but it is more likely that it is a hybrid.

The first description of Abies × sibirico - nephrolepis was made in 1957 by Taken. and J. J. Chien in Acta Phytotaxonomica Sinica 6 (1): 153, pl. 37 (C1 - C3), 38 (C1 - C10). However, the name, composed of the epithets of the two parental species is invalid under Article H10.3 ICBN.
