In 1928 he received his diploma and 1930 attatoui his right diploma. Already in the same year, when just 21 - year-old, he married; the couple had two sons. His father died in October 1929.

Ash- Schabbis poetic talent showed itself early; at age 14 he wrote his first poems. During his studies, his interest shifted increasingly to modern Arabic and Western poetry. New trends in Arabic poetry from the Middle East and North America fascinated him as well as the European romantics. As its restrictions, so he sought the society of the Tunisian system and the French colonial regime to break through and demanded social reform, freedom and progress.

Ash- Schabbis poems deal with various topics, from nature to patriotism. His revolutionary ideas have found wide resonance in a later generation of Tunisian and Arab nationalists, and his poems were printed in the most influential journals in the Arab world. ash- Shabbi contributed greatly to the renaissance of Tunisian literature in at a time when other Tunisians social and political renaissance of their society began to lead the way - eg Tahir al - Haddad with the pioneering work on Tunisian women, and Habib Bourguiba with the establishment of its NeoDestour party in the year of death ash- Schabbis. ash- Shabbi broke with traditional forms of Arabic poetry and other Tunisian poets opened the way to a more emotive poetry that helped to pave the way for social awakening and a modern worldview. Many of his poems were set to music and thus became patriotic and folk songs.
