Abraham Ángel

Abraham Ángel Valdés Card ( born March 7, 1905 in El Oro, Mexico State, † October 27, 1924 in Mexico City) was a Mexican painter.

Biography

Card was the son of Scots. After the father had left the family, the mother took the children to Puebla. He called himself only in the case the first name, as his father had forbidden him to use the name card. In Puebla, he spent his childhood, before he went with an older brother to Mexico City at the age of eleven years. He later received his artistic training at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, Manuel Rodríguez Lozano know learned in 1921 and gave drawing lessons pupils after Adolfo Best Maugards method. He painted mainly portraits, village scenes and landscapes with " unnatural " colors; his paintings were mostly of naive artistic style. He felt humiliated and was depressed when he died from an overdose of morphine.
