Abraham Colles

Abraham Colles (* July 23, 1773 in Millmount in Kilkenny, † November 16, 1843 ) was an Irish surgeon and anatomist.

In 1802 Colles President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. In 1804 he was appointed professor of anatomy, physiology and surgery at that college.

1814 published a paper on Colles fractures of the distal radius ( radius fracture ), which was ahead of its time, as it was decades before the application of X-rays. The fracture of the distal radius with tilting is by back of hand upward ( dorsal) without joint involvement is called a Colles fracture.
