Abraham P. Grant

Abraham Phineas Grant ( born April 5, 1804 in New Lebanon, New York, † December 11, 1871 in Oswego, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1837 and 1839 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Phineas Abraham Grant was born about eight years before the outbreak of the British - American War in New Lebanon in Columbia County. He attended public schools and then graduated from Hamilton College in Clinton. He then studied law. His admission to the bar he received in 1828, then began to practice in Oswego. As district attorney he was in the 1835 Oswego County operates. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1836 for the 25th Congress Grant was the 17th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeds Joel Turrill and Rutger B. Miller took on March 4, 1837 which had previously together represent the district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He retired after March 3, 1839, from from the Congress.

After his conference time he went after the activity as a lawyer. On December 11, 1871, he died in Oswego and was then buried in the Riverside Cemetery. At the time of the Civil War was about six and a half years to finish.
