Absolute dating

The absolute chronology is a term in archeology. He referred to a related on a calendar chronology, in contrast to the relative chronology.

The relative chronology answered us whether an object is older or younger than another. The absolute chronology answer us the question of what century comes an object before or after the birth of Christ. (Oscar Montelius )

Methods which convert relative chronologies into absolute chronologies are, for example, the reference to historically datable events ( eg in the case of Pompeii or of the tomb of Childeric I. ), the Münzdatierung, dendrochronology or with residual tolerances, the radiocarbon method.
