The Academy of European Law (ERA ) is an international training and discussion site for lawyers. As a public foundation based in Trier, its task is to promote the awareness, understanding and the application of European law.

Activity profile

In meetings, seminars, language courses in English law, through study visits and e -learning projects, the Academy legal practitioners offers the opportunity to acquire or deepen knowledge in various areas of European law. The offered in Trier or in Brussels and other European cities in the conference center of the Academy usually multilingual events are aimed at judges, prosecutors, lawyers, notaries, lawyers in business, administration, associations and non-governmental organizations, scientists and others concerned with legal matters people. The Academy provides a forum for discussion of legal policy proposals and developments at European level and thus contributes to the creation of a pan-European public.

History

The emergence of the Academy was closely associated with the rapid pace of European integration and the completion of the Single Market in 1992. 1990 the European Parliament recommended the establishment of a training center for lawyers to improve the uniform implementation of European law. In 1991, the Parliament 's proposal some MEPs and politicians from Luxembourg and Rhineland -Palatinate, an Academy of European Law in Trier, to build close to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg. In 1992 the Academy was founded as a public foundation under German law. Founding Donors were the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Rheinland-Pfalz, the city of Trier, and the Association for the Promotion of European Law. Shortly after 2000, a further member countries of the European Union, the other German Länder and the Federal Republic of Germany and as of the year came as donors to do so., Have become 24 EU countries founders of the Academy.

Structure

For the design of educational events, an international team of lawyers is responsible, which is divided into four departments: European Private Law, European business law, European Union law and European criminal law. Speakers come from a Europe-wide network of professionals from the legal practice, teaching and politics. In addition to the conference papers and the endowment of the institutional funding of the European Union and the state of Rhineland -Palatinate contributes significantly to the financing of the Academy.

Publications

The ERA is common with the Springer - Verlag science editor of the legal Vierteljahresschrift ERA Forum, whose products are based on a selection of the best speakers contributions to their meetings. Most of the articles are published in English. But there are also German and French contributions, each with a short summary in English. The journal is addressed to all legal practitioners, who are interested in current European legal issues.
