Ierissos (Greek Ιερισσός ( f sg ) ) is a large village on the east coast of Halkidiki peninsula in northern Greece, in Central Macedonia. Ierissos lies in a plane adjacent to the coast of the Bay of Ierissos which a part of the bay Strymonic bay ( bay Orfanos ) is. Thessaloniki is located in a northwesterly direction about 160 km away. South of Ierissos is located approximately 10 km in a straight line the border with the autonomous Mount Athos. The nearby towns of Ierissos are Nea Roda, Stratoni and Gomati. Ierissos is the administrative center of the municipality ( Dimos ) Aristotelis, which was formed in 2010 from the formerly independent villages Arnea, Panagia and Stagira - Acanthus.

In the area of Ierissos lie the remains of the ancient city of Acanthus. They are found south of the present village and the harbor.

On September 26, 1932 at 20.20 clock local time, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale Ierissos and the surrounding villages. A warning by other earthquakes did not exist; Aftershocks with the strengths of 6.0, 5.7 and 6.2 completed the destruction of between 26 and 29 September 1932. The epicenter of the earthquake was about 1 km south of the southern coast of Elefthera Peninsula, the northern boundary of the Ierissos Bay, and 4 km east of the village Stratoni, which was also destroyed.

In the Greek Civil War 1946-1949 raided on June 22, 1948 Ierissos insurgents and fought with the police and army battle for hours. The rebels were able to break through the defenses of the army and police and border settlements of the village occupied for a short time.
