Stagira - Acanthus (Greek Στάγιρα - Άκανθος; ( n pl ), ( f sg ). ); official name Dimotiki enotita Stagira - Acanthus ( Δημοτική Ενότητα Σταγίρων - Ακάνθου ), since 2011 a district of the Greek community Aristotelis in the region of Central Macedonia. It originated in 1997 as an independent municipality from the merger of the municipalities Ierissos, Stagira, Ouranoupoli Ammouliani, Strato Niki, Stratoni, Nea Roda and Olymbiada within the Greek local government reform Schedio Kapodistrias. The name is derived from the two ancient cities ( poleis ) on the territory of the municipality from: Stagira at today's Town Olymbiada and Acanthus at today's Town Ierissos.
