Acehnese people

The Achinesen ( it also Aceh Acehnese or Atjeher is used) are an ethnic group on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and live mainly in the province of Aceh in the north of the island.

Ethnicity and religion

They are a mixed people of Javanese, Batak, Malay, Indians and Arabs. Once they had taken the Hinduism, which is evidenced by their traditions and Sanskrit words in the language. In the 13th century they came by Indian traders in contact with Islam in the 16th century and formed a first embossed Islamic empire.

The nearly 4 million Achinesen apply in Indonesia as strict Muslims.

People vary in appearance from the other Indonesians - they are tall and dark-skinned.

Language

The language Achinesisch (or Acehnesisch ) belongs to the Malayo - Polynesian languages ​​in the Austronesian language family. We distinguish 10 dialects.

Whereas an Arabic script was used, today the Latin alphabet is used with some additional diacritics.
