History and Sights

The colonization of the island of São Miguel was held by Portuguese settlers from 1436. The place Achadinha was established in the course of further development of the island. 1526 built its residents first church. After several renovations, most recently in 1782, the church was last restored in 1984 comprehensively.

Through the park Parque dos Caldeirões the eponymous river Ribeira dos Caldeirões flows. In the park there are several restored water mills are seen, mostly from the 16th century. Gastronomy, a visitor center with a permanent exhibition to the mills, and a shop are housed there. In one of the mills daily performs a miller its traditional day's work.

Opened in 2006, the museum Núcleo Museológico da Achada deals with the history of the community.

Economy

The community is dominated by agriculture. Potatoes and corn are the main crops, to livestock is of importance. The corn is used in particular as feed for cattle.
