Achavanich

Achavanich is a U-shaped (English horseshoe -shaped ) stone setting, about seven kilometers north of Latheron near the hole Stemster in the county of Caithness in Scotland.

Individual stones are little more than a meter high. It can be assumed, recognizable by the weathering of the resulting blocks, many were once substantially higher. There are 36 stones visible today. The initial number may have been about 54. The axis of the system is SSE- NNW oriented. The effect of these placed on a flat slope in the heath system is intended. The creation date of this plant is unknown but it is believed that it dates from the Bronze Age. Settlements of this kind are very rare in the UK. More examples are, however, known from Brittany.

South of Latheron, there was the well-known as a stone of Latheron Cross - Slab.
