Aciliu Valley

The motorway viaduct Aciliu is the longest and highest viaduct in Romania and is located south of the community Aciliu, Sibiu county. It is used to transfer the Aciliu Valley and is part of the 582 km long section between the A1 Orăştie and Sibiu (Hermannstadt).

History

Already in the planning of highway came a transfer of the Aciliu Valley in the form of a viaduct in question. Since plans for a bypass of the area or of a solution of the problem through a tunnel due to the high costs and the poor condition of the building failed, the Romanian government decided together with the EU within the framework of the Pan-European transport corridor for the construction of this motorway viaduct.

After the twelve double piers were built of steel box girder was installed using the incremental launching method and then concreted the deck slab. The viaduct is part of the contract section 3 of the motorway Orăştie - Sibiu, which was built for 142 million euros by the Italian Impregilo. Construction began on 20 June at the Los 2011.

The viaduct was released in December 2013 for traffic. Due to a short subsequent landslide at the viaduct was closed again in the same month.
