Salini Impregilo

Impregilo is an Italian construction company with headquarters in Sesto San Giovanni near Milan. The company was founded in 1959.

The present company is a result of the merger of the Italian Bauunternehmem Cogefar - Impresit SpA, Girolamo SpA and Lodigiani SpA in 1990. Around 10,000 employees work in the company (as of 2006).

Suspected fraud and responsibility in the waste crisis in Campania

Impregilo is currently available in connection with a public contract to build a waste incinerator in the Campanian city Acerra under suspicion of fraud.

Since 1998, Impregilo was responsible for the construction of such a plant in Acerra. The company announced his project in 2000 at a construction period of 300 days. The incinerator is then still not ready for eight years. The prosecutor's office opened an investigation in this regard in 2003 for fraud, which led to the temporary confiscation of the entire plant under construction in 2004. 2005 won by Impregilo public contract has been declared null and void and dissolved. In June 2007, the prosecutor's seize 750 million euros of the construction consortium led by Impregilo. On 29 February 2008 the public prosecutor brought against 27 people, including the President of the Campania region and former special commissioner to tackle the waste crisis Antonio Bassolino and several former top manager of Impregilo, charges of abuse of office and fraudulent activities in the award and execution of contracts. Also on trial is the Impregilo SpA as a legal entity as well as several of its subsidiaries. The trial is scheduled to begin on 14 May 2008. The never built to end incinerator in Acerra is considered a major cause of the continued for 15 years rubbish crisis in Naples.
