Acupari

The Asociación Cultural Peruano Alemana ( ACUPARI ) is a German - Peruvian Cultural Society in Cusco, Peru.

History

It was founded on 10 October 1990 as a nonprofit organization. With the goal in the Peruvian tourist center of Cusco to promote intercultural dialogue, ACUPARI organizing a language program for German, Spanish and Quechua. In addition to teaching is a collaborative learning with Peruvian tandems and partners, cultural events and the possibility of social cooperation. Part of the cultural contributions are co-financed by the Foreign Office. The head of ACUPARI is the German Honorary Consul in Cusco, Maria Jurgens de Hermoza.

Language Courses

The lessons are cross-culturally oriented and is based on the principle of communicative language teaching, with interactive and varied methods. The contents conform to the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference ( CEFR).

  • Spanish for beginners and advanced
  • Quechua courses, in this case the language range is complemented by visits to markets and Andean village communities.
  • Tandem Programme

Following a course are opportunities to work in a Peruvian institution and to be paid as an intern or volunteer a social contribution.

Projects

Since 2006 ACUPARI support to the children's book project "Books for 70 schools " small schools in remote Andean villages. The project is necessary to address the promotion of reading in the country, on the other hand are storytellers are motivated to write. The tendered by ACUPARI in 2007 children's book competition was won by the Peruvian hobby author and painter Braddy Romero with his story " Catalina y la Unkuña Mágica ", " Catalina and the Enchanted Unkuña ". With the help of donations of the same name, illustrated children's book was born. A total of 2000 " Catalina " books were financed in a bilingual edition in Spanish and Quechua, each of the rural schools will receive a class set of 25 books.

One impetus for the project initiative was made by the German children's book Illustrator Florian mast. The illustrated children's book by him "John", written by Maria Luzia Orthen let ACUPARI 2006 translate into Spanish. ACUPARI received the print rights for Peru and enabled with donations, the distribution of 2000 " Johann" books in 70 Andean schools.

Events

The institute is a language school and meeting place. Among the events are tandem, Salsa Dancing, Peruvian cooking. It also organizes and sponsors ACUPARI cultural events with German and Peruvian artists, mostly in collaboration with other cultural institutions locally.

The Cultural Institute has its own library, which in German also information about Peru only has a stock of books and journals.
