Adalbert I, Count of Vermandois

Adalbert I (* probably 915; † September 8 987 ) was a member of the family of the Carolingian and since 946 Count of Vermandois ( 946-987 ). He was the son of Count Heribert II and Adela of France.

Life

The disposal of the Vermandois was Adalbert only 946 with the division of his father's heritage, three years after his death. He supported his brother Hugo in its attempts to keep the title as archbishop of Reims, but gave up the fight at 949, as Hugo's claims were definitely lost. He submitted to the King Louis IV and became one of his partisans. 954 Before married Adalbert Gerberga of Lorraine, a daughter of the late Duke 939 Giselbert and Gerberga of Saxony, which since 939 the wife of Louis IV was again. Thus Ludwig IV was his step- father and his son Lothar, who followed him 954, the half-brother of his wife.
