Adam Baworowski

Adam Baworowski ( born August 9, 1913 in Vienna, † the beginning of 1943 in Stalingrad ) was an Austro- Polish tennis player.

Life

Adam Graf Baworowski came from the traditional Polish noble family Baworowski. From 1933, he joined as a tennis player in appearance. As a member of the Austrian Davis Cup team, he was appointed in 1933 on the side of George Metaxa to 1937 in five games and reached the semifinals of the 1936 European zone. In the same year he won the Austrian Championships in Vienna.

At the French Championships Baworowski reached in 1937 and 1938, the last sixteen. After the "Anschluss " of Austria in March 1938, he opted for the Polish Davis Cup team because he did not want to lose the parental Country Estate in Poland. Recently he took part in the game in May 1939 against the German team that was lost with 2:3. At the Wimbledon Championships, he was defeated each in the first round in his three appearances (1933, 1936 and 1939).

After the beginning of World War II Baworowski came first as a Polish soldier in German captivity. In 1941 he was runner-up at German war championships in Braunschweig. He was then drafted into the German army and fell in early 1943 in Stalingrad.
