Adam Elias von Siebold

Adam Elias von Siebold ( born March 5, 1775 in Würzburg, † June 12, 1828 in Berlin) was a German gynecologist and university teachers.

Life

Adam Elias von Siebold was the youngest son of Carl Caspar von Siebold (1736-1807), professor of anatomy, surgery and obstetrics at the University of Würzburg. Unlike his brothers, he was supposed to be a businessman, but then began but also to study medicine. After studies in Würzburg, Jena and Göttingen again in Würzburg, he was first doctorate in 1798 for MD, the same year he completed his habilitation there also, and in the following year 1799 he was appointed Professor of the new subject " Obstetrics " at the University Würzburg appointed. When his teachers, he relied particularly on Johann Christian Stark (1753-1811) in Jena, Friedrich Benjamin Osiander (1759-1822) in Göttingen and later, when he himself was an associate professor at Johann Lukas Boer (1751-1835) in Vienna.

In 1804 he had to direct the construction of the first Gebäranstalt he 1805 after his appointment as professor also opened itself (see: Julius Wurzburg ). After he had in 1816 accepted a call to Berlin, Siebold opened in 1817 at the Charité, the new University Hospital and affiliated to their respective clinic for sick women and one for obstetrics.

Siebold worked as an author of several textbooks, and in 1804 was editor of the medical journal " Lucina ". To him, the quote is attributed to " peace and quiet, time and patience, respect for nature and the birthing woman, and the art esteem if their aid dictates of nature. "

He died at age 53 from a stomach ailment and left two sons ( the gynecologist Eduard Caspar Jacob von Siebold and the physician and zoologist Carl von Siebold ) and four daughters.
